Projects
within schools include one day taster workshops or longer
residencies. Children can have the opportunity to work with
many mediums investigating materials to create sculptures,
banners or hangings.
What
If, Coventry
The Ricoh Arena in Coventry offered 30 schools a chance to
participate in a project to win copiers and accessories for
their school. I worked with children from two Coventry primary
schools. After a visit to the arena the children used photographs
they had taken to inspire them to create their own artworks.
One group worked with photos to create montages, some worked
with treasure box materials to create shapes and patterns
found within the building. They were also given recycled materials
to construct large sculptures representing their ideas. The
OHP was also used to enlarge their drawings that they later
painted in bright dyes.
Each
of the artworks created will be exhibited at Ricoh Arena for
the public to see.
The
Chinese Zodiac
Young people from Years 3 & 4 worked together in small
groups to create the animals from the zodiac using handmade
felt. By laying large amounts of different coloured wool,
they created the animals. By adding small details too the
wool was then ready to be rolled with hot water until the
felt was made. Other groups created their animals using wire
to make large scale 3D sculptures
Schools
involved have included Grange Farm, Frederick Bird and Pearl
Hyde in Coventry, Bilbrook Middle school in Wolverhampton,
St Josephs in Worcestershire and William Cowper in Birmingham.
